What is melanin?

It is a pigment that occurs naturally in the human body. It gives color to our skin, hair and iris. It protects us against harmful UV radiation and blocks blue light to a much greater extent than standard 'blue cut'. Our melanin lenses block harmful blue light by 76-92%, depending on the type of lens. This is because the melanin in our lenses is not applied only as a coating, but is completely integrated with the parent material (thanks to Cast-to-Rx casting technology, liquid melanin can be completely integrated with the base material, which is also in liquid form at the beginning of the manufacturing process lenses).

It regulates the proper level of melatonin in our body. It is an important hormone that regulates our circadian rhythm and influences the level of immunity. It also controls intestinal movements and regulates blood pressure. It tells our body when it is time for rest and deep regeneration. Excessive blue light disrupts this rhythm and may cause various diseases (depression, heart disease, vision damage).

Our melanin lenses effectively protect eyesight and help maintain the desired balance of the entire human body, which in today's world is exposed to excessive exposure to harmful blue light.

We are the only authorized manufacturer and distributor of melanin lenses in Europe. We protect human eyesight to a degree unattainable by other manufacturers of optical products. Cast-to-Rx technology allows you to cast lenses with any melanin content, offering 90% eye protection against harmful blue radiation.

Here are the facts, not fiction, about Blue Light:

  • FACT – With the exception of high-energy violet (400-450 nm), the visible range of blue light (380 to 580 nm) is beneficial to health. Blocking all blue light is a dangerous mistake!
  • FACT – Blue light is needed to see colors clearly and also to synchronize the human body’s natural circadian rhythms that influence sleep – the most important factor for health.
  • FACT – HEV light (400-450 nm) is the only harmful part of blue light. – Why? Because it causes macular degeneration and can permanently damage your eyes.

Our lenses block bad (HEV) light while allowing good (blue) light to pass through. Smart, huh?

“When I was told that someone could produce the highest quality prescription lenses, with powers ranging from +4.00 to -6.00 diopters, with an index of 1.56, and in less than 2 hours, I was skeptical to say the least.”

says Howell WoltzCEO Optilabs

“Today I know that this innovative method of creating lenses may turn out to be a revolution not only in the lives of customers, but also the owners of optical salons. Thanks to its operating model, Optilabs offers the production of excellent quality prescription lenses directly in the store where the customer goes, on the same day and at a very competitive price.”

This is probably an interesting solution for customers who will need glasses on the same day. Interestingly, the process of creating these lenses is not only faster, but also more ecological than traditional ones. Only one liter of water is needed to obtain a lens, and this too is recycled through distillation in the store.

Compact workshop

for every optician

The equipment necessary to produce lenses using digital Cast-to-Rx technology is small in size, so it can easily fit in almost any optical salon.

An in-store pilot project, which shows the concept of operating an optical salon based on the production of lenses directly at a given point, was launched in Warsaw, at ul. Prosta 2/14, near Rondo ONZ. In a designerly finished showroom, with an interesting display of frames and a package of professional advice, customers can test this revolutionary service. “Optilabs would like to enable every optician in Poland to switch to a business model that is less dependent on large lens manufacturers. At this point, the company has five complete systems for producing lenses right in the showroom, ready for installation,” says Howell Woltz.
